Driver wrecks into school bus during pursuit, suffers life-threatening injuries

A driver crashed into the back of a school bus in Madisonville during a police pursuit, causing life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The driver of a silver 2008 Honda Fit crashed near the intersection of the Red Bank Expressway and Duck Creek Road around 2:30 p.m. Aug. 12, according to Cincinnati Fire Department spokeswoman Lindsay Lomax Haegele.

Hamilton County sheriff’s deputies were pursuing the driver on Interstate 71 for fictitious tags, according to a dispatcher. The driver did not pull over and deputies pursued him off the highway onto the Red Bank Expressway, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

The driver, a 22-year-old man, crashed into a Forest Hills school bus, the news release says.

More than a dozen Cincinnati firefighters and medics responded to the crash, Haegele said. Cincinnati police and other agencies also responded, according to adispatcher.

Two adults on the bus and an 11-year-old girl were not injured, according to Cincinnati police. The driver of the Honda was taken to UC Medical Center.

Police have not released the names of the people involved in the crash.

The Cincinnati Police Department’s Traffic Unit is handling the crash investigation.
