Family of man killed in officer-involved shooting speaks out

The family of a man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting is speaking out.

Crasteven Wilson was shot and killed in an incident with police on March 2.

It started when officers got a call about a suspicious person who police identified as Wilson.

Police said Officer Bryce Sheehan responded to the scene, approaching Wilson and asking Wilson if he could pat-search him.

When Sheehan placed his hand on Wilson’s arm, police said Wilson pulled a gun and shot at Sheehan, narrowly missing his head.

As Sheehan tried to put distance between himself and Wilson, police said Wilson advanced, continuing to fire at him and striking him in the right thigh.

Sheehan then returned fire. Police said Wilson then tried to steal Sheehan’s car but fled on foot.

Wilson was found a short time later and taken to the hospital where he later died.

Some people are now accusing officers of hiding something in Wilson’s death, alleging that after the initial shootout, Wilson dropped his weapon and ran. Those accusing officers say they believe Sheehan continued to shoot at Wilson in retaliation.

“So we’re saying maybe this young man was taken out after he was out of viewshot of the camera,” Political Activist Michael Washington said at the press conference on Monday. “The family and I want to know where is the camera that gives us the view of his last moments? If you had a body camera showing when you did this, where is that part at?”

According to Wilson’s family, he was mentally ill and should not have been killed. The family wants Wilson to be remembered as a young man who had his share of problems, but was caring and loved his family.

Officer Sheehan is now on routine administrative leave as the investigation continues.
